The Jerry Tarkanian Legacy Project
May 12, 2013 - The UNLV Alumni Association is proud to announce the creation of the Jerry Tarkanian Legacy Project to honor the career and contributions of UNLV legendary basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian with a bronze statue and scholarship program.
About Coach Tarkanian
Jerry Tarkanian arrived at UNLV in 1973. During the next two decades, he developed talented basketball teams, excited fans, put the Runnin' Rebels on the national map, and awakened a spirit of pride within local residents. Tark's Runnin' Rebels became the "Best Show in Town" successfully competing against bigger-than-life celebrities and entertainment to become a great source of pride for a quickly growing community.
In September, Coach Tark will be inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame for his legendary career. He is 10th on the NCAA all-time winningest coaches list which includes currently active as well as retired coaches. In his 19-year career at UNLV, he never had a losing a season and took the team to the Final Four on multiple occasions as well as winning the 1990 NCAA National Championship with a 30-point win margin, a record which still stands today.
