Intersecting Connections: Where Do We Place Our Hope?

Trying to endure the social unrest, political fallout and the COVID-19 pandemic all at the same time? Join the Intersecting Connections' Team to hear from UNLV faculty, staff, and students on what strategies they are using to help their mental and emotional well-being during these unstable times. This session will be moderated by Dr. ​Sharolyn D. Pollard-Durodola​, ​Professor of English Language Learning. Intersecting Connections (IC) is a developing and innovative programming initiative created to address various issues that minority students may face at UNLV. To help address some of these concerns and help fill the gap the IC Team includes: Behavioral Health Services for Student Wellness, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Housing & Residential Life, The Intersection: Academic Multicultural Resource Center and Student Diversity & Social Justice (SDSJ). "Understanding Bacterial Communities and Their Effect on Humans" with Dr. Boo Shan Tseng Assistant Professor, UNLV College of Sciences School of Life Sciences Many of the bacteria we come into contact with on a day-to-day basis resides in bacterial communities called biofilms. These bacterial communities play a significant role in our ecosystem and impact humans in industrial production, agriculture, and medicine in both beneficial and detrimental ways. Dr. Boo Shan Tseng, a microbiologist at the UNLV School of Life Sciences who studies biofilms, will share with us why understanding biofilms is an important part of understanding the larger world we live in.

Innovation and Tech Commercialization Webinar

Join Dr. Robert Rippee, Executive Director of UNLV's Black Fire Innovation Hub as he kicks off our Spring 2021 Engineering Webinar Series and discusses the path from idea to startup for a typical student project. UNLV's Black Fire Innovation Hub is a new program for concept development, incubation and acceleration of startup companies and concepts, specifically focused on UNLV students, faculty and staff. Dr. Rippee will also introduce a new seminar series offered to ENGR students this Spring on Tech Commercialization.


Adobe Creative Cloud & Apps Best Practices

This one-hour workshop will provide training, best practices, and examples for how to utilize Adobe Creative Cloud and the free downloadable apps to help develop ideas in the creative/information gathering process. Special emphasis is provided for College of Fine Arts students. Attendees will be able to: Understand the purpose of each app. Generate design elements to incorporate into their creative process. Understand best practices for saving and transfer design elements from the apps to desired Adobe Applications, e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.


Bright Lights in the Desert: The Latter-day Saints of Las Vegas

Eadington Fellow colloquium will highlight the influence and history of Latter-day Saints in Las Vegas from their settlement at the old Mormon Fort in 1855 until the erection of their temple in 1989. Guest Speaker: Fred Woods, Ph.D., Professor, Brigham Young University The William R. Eadington Fellowship program is sponsored by the UNLV Center for Gaming Research in the University Libraries Special Collections and Archives and funds scholarly research into our collections on gaming and Las Vegas.
